AMD is come up with a lot of innovative ways to allow its users to enjoy faster home computing. Even though many companies that design these particular chips designed them in a compatible fashion, the AMD 64 bit processor is a particular processor that stands out for a number of different reasons. They used to be that nobody would even consider the fact that a 64-bit processor would ever be needed. AMD has actually come out with several of these processors and each of them has improved on the way that we enjoy using our PC. What exactly is 64 bit anyway?
The term 64-bit is actually a way to describe the memory addresses, integers, and other units that are 8 bytes wide. Eight bytes would be the equivalent of 64 bits. It also has to do with CPUs that are built around systems that are based on address busses, data buses and registers that are of equal with. The 64 bit CPUs were actually existing and supercomputers for almost 50 years and in server applications since the 1990s. It wasn't until 2003, however, that they were used in the personal computer. For that reason, many people consider them to be a newer chip. They simply replaced the 32-bit, and 16 bit chips that were available before that time.
The AMD 64 bit processor is manufactured under several different processor names. These would include the Operon, which is available both for the server and now for the PC, the Turion which is a dual core processor built for mobile use as well as other processors such as the Avalon and the Phenom. All of these processors have their own strengths and weaknesses and some of them are built for specific types of machines. The 64 bit technology is what most, if not all personal computers are now built around. It wasn't all that long ago that they were built on a 32-bit platform bug by switching to 64-bit, we have enjoyed increased speed and power from our computers.
The AMD Athlon is probably the most popular 64-bit processor that is available. Not only is it fast for use in the personal computer but it is also less expensive than many of the competing processors in its league. By purchasing a computer with the AMD Athlon 64 bit processor in it, you are getting a high-speed computer for a great price. I use an AMD processor and my own personal computer and let me tell you, it gets put through the paces on a daily basis. Even though I replace my computer every couple of years, I still look for one with an AMD chip because I feel that I get the same response without having to pay the price for a computer with an Intel chip.
As we continue on into the future, the AMD 64 bit processor will continue to grow along with us. There may come a day, however, whenever 64-bit systems are no longer used. Until that time, it is our best choice for having a computer that runs well for the long-term.
