The Amd K7 Processor Family

Every once in awhile a company comes along that makes a name for itself to such an extent that it almost becomes a household name. In most of these situations, the product that we are talking about is something that is used every day, such as tissues or perhaps breath mints. With the increase in the use of the personal computer, however, AMD has become a household name of its own. Not only do we use it to describe the processors that are in our computer, we use it to describe the computers themselves.
AMD has produced a lot of different computer components in it's history. Many people only consider that it has made things such as the processor but it actually has been making computer components for over 50 years, many of which are not the processor at all. During the 1980s, however, this all changed whenever AMD began to produce the processors that it is familiar with. One of the most popular and best running of these is the AMD K7 processor. It has not only brought increased speed to the computers that we run, it has allowed us to purchase these fast computers at a discount.
The AMD K7 processor is an entire family of processors. It consists of desktop processors, including the Avalon, Athlon MP and Athlon XP. It also comes in budget processors such as the Duron and Sempron as well as the Athlon 4 and Athlon XP-M. Along with these desktop processors, the AMD K7 processor family also includes mobile processors such as the Duron. These various AMD processors have brought a lot in the way of speed to the users of the PC as well as keeping the price down to a level that most users can afford.
If you own a computer that runs one of these AMD K7 processor types, you may have a bit of a difficulty finding a replacement. This is because the computer world has moved on to faster and more productive processors although many people still enjoy using the computer that they have used for quite a while with one of these older processors. One of the best ways for you to be able to find a replacement is either by looking on an online auction site, such as eBay or perhaps by going to a computer show. There's nothing wrong with using one of these older processors as they are still fast enough to handle many of today's applications. Before purchasing one of them, however, make sure that you check into the possibility of upgrading for around the same price. Many of the new processors are still built around this particular processor type.
As computers continue to get faster, processors such as the AMD K7 processor will continue to get better and better. They will do this, not only to keep up with current demand for processing speed but also so that they can continue to power the computers that we want at a price we can afford.
